Man Arrested After Stabbing Incident at Argos Distribution Centre in Croydon

A man has been arrested following a violent incident at the Argos Kingfisher Distribution Centre in Croydon, where he allegedly stabbed a security guard and injured three other staff members.

Emergency services, including the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%, London Ambulance Service, and London's Air Ambulance, were scrambled to the site shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

It is understood that the man gained access to the distribution centre by tricking security into buzzing him in, falsely claiming he worked for %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%. Suspicion was raised shortly after his entry, prompting a security guard to confront him. The %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%% then attacked the security guard with a knife.

Three other employees intervened in an attempt to stop the man and sustained injuries in the process. All four victims were transported to trauma centres across %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%%. Their conditions have not yet been confirmed.

The suspect was detained at the scene by responding officers. The Metropolitan %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%% have described the incident as isolated and confirmed that it is not being treated as terror-related.

A police cordon remains in place at the site as investigators %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

A spokesperson for the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%% said:
"We were called to reports of a stabbing at a commercial property in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_7%% shortly after 10 a.m. today.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, and investigations are ongoing. We can confirm this is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

The London %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_8%% Service confirmed that multiple resources were dispatched to the scene, including trauma teams and ambulances.

A %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_9%% spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.21am this morning (Thursday 23 January) to reports of a stabbing incident in Marlowe Way, Croydon.

 


 

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_10%% car, an incident response officer, members of our Tactical Response Unit and London's Air Ambulance.

"Our crews treated five patients at the scene, before taking one to a London major trauma centre and four to other hospitals."

Argos has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but employees at the distribution centre have been offered support.
