Major Grass Fire in Hornchurch Prompts Smoke Warning to Residents

Sixty firefighters are tackling a large grass fire in Hornchurch this evening, after around six hectares of grassland caught alight near Wingletye Lane.

The London Fire Brigade was called to the blaze at 20:10, with eight fire engines quickly deployed from stations including Barking, Kentish Town, and Soho.


Residents Urged to Keep Windows Closed

Due to significant smoke drift, nearby residents are being strongly advised to keep windows and doors shut as a precaution.

A spokesperson for the Brigade confirmed:

“Crews are tackling a fire involving approximately six hectares of grassland. Smoke is affecting the surrounding area.”


Firefighting Ongoing – Cause Unknown

Firefighters remain at the scene late into Monday night. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and an investigation will be launched once the blaze is brought under control.


Second Major Fire in East London

This fire comes just hours after a massive blaze in Beam Valley Country Park, Dagenham, where 125 firefighters were deployed. It’s not yet clear if today’s dry weather conditions contributed to both incidents.
