BBC Confirms Departure
The BBC has confirmed that Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders, stating, “We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters.”
Suspension and Apology
This news follows reports that the actor had been suspended from the show after allegedly using a derogatory term. Borthwick issued an apology, expressing, “I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool Weekweek on Strictly. I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused.”
Character’s Role and Future
A source told The Sun that while Jamie is well-regarded, his character Jay has not been central-wales/”>central to the show for some time. “He’s been very much a supporting character of late,” the source noted.
Since last summer, Borthwick has made approximately 30 appearances, while new executive producer Ben Wadey is now at the helm, leading to speculation about Borthwick’s future on the show.
