Councillor Ray Morgon, leader of the council, has responded to concerns raised by residents regarding the display of the Union Flag and wales/cross-wales/”>cross-england/”>cross/”>Cross of england/wales/st-george/”>St George.

Community Patriotism Encouraged

Both flags are currently flown outside The Townthe town hall in Romford throughout the year. In a public letter addressed to Andrew Rosindell MP, Cllr Morgon stated, “We have no problem with residents showing their patriotism by flying flags at their homes or in The Boroughthe borough. It must be done safely and with respect.”

Health and Safety Considerations

However, he emphasised that flags causing health and safety issues, such as obstructing road signs, will be removed. “We do need to consider road and other users, and if they are in places that obscure signs or constitute a health and safety issue, then they will be removed,” he added. The councillor concluded, “We will therefore leave our flags flying unless it causes a real problem.”
