Tragic news has emerged from Nottingham as a body has been found in the search for a 16-year-old boy who went missing after entering a lake at Colwick Country Park.
Emergency services were called at around 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday, 30 April) after reports that the teenager had gotten into difficulty while swimming. Despite a multi-agency rescue operation, including police divers and specialist search teams, a body was recovered from the water shortly before 8pm.
The boy’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specially-trained officers, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed.
Chief Inspector David Mather of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“Emergency services have sadly recovered the body of a teenage boy from the lake, despite the best efforts of rescue teams.
This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts are with this boy’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
He added that the case should serve as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers of open water, especially as temperatures rise during warmer weather.
Group Manager Tom Staples from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service expressed condolences:
“Despite the tireless efforts of all the emergency services involved, we are deeply saddened by this outcome.
We urge everyone to take extreme care around lakes, rivers, and other natural bodies of water.”
Councillor Sam Lux from Nottingham City Council also extended sympathies, stressing the importance of adhering to water safety guidance:
“As the current warm spell continues, we urge people to only enter the water during supervised sessions.”
The teenager’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.
Authorities continue to urge the public to be cautious around open water, especially during the summer months.
