Police investigations are underway in Corby and Ilford after the body of a 24-year-old woman was discovered in a car boot near Valentines Park in Ilford, East London.
The discovery followed concerns raised about the woman’s welfare on Wednesday, November 13. Officers from Northamptonshire Police began their inquiries at a property in Sturton Walk on the Lincoln Estate, Corby, which led them to collaborate with the Metropolitan Police in Ilford.
The victim’s body was located in a vehicle near Brisbane Road, close to the entrance of Valentines Park. The death is being treated as suspicious, and a murder investigation has been launched.
Investigation Updates
Superintendent Steve Freeman of Northamptonshire Police confirmed that detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team and the Metropolitan Police are working together to uncover the circumstances of the woman’s death.
“A targeted incident is suspected, with no wider risk to the public,” Freeman said. However, the suspect remains at large, and no arrests have yet been made.
Police activity is ongoing in both Corby and Ilford, with extra patrols deployed in Corby to reassure the community.
Scene in Corby
Sturton Walk remains under police guard as forensic officers continue their investigation. Neighbors described the property as a former House in Multiple Occupation (HMO), which previously housed up to 12 residents.
One local resident reported hearing a loud commotion earlier this week, followed by someone fleeing the property. “The way that gate slammed, I knew something had happened. I heard banging and then someone took off quickly,” the neighbour said.
Victim’s Identity Pending
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the victim was 24 years old, and her identity is expected to be released over the weekend.
Community Reacts
Corby, a town with a low murder rate, has not experienced such a crime since the tragic killing of Rayon Pennycook three and a half years ago. The discovery has shocked residents, who expressed concerns over safety and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Individuals can contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555111.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected in the coming days.
