Lucy Letby, 36, will face no further criminal charges over fresh claims of baby deaths and collapses at two hospitals, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed.

CPS Drops Cases After Thorough Review

Frank Ferguson, Head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, revealed the update after receiving new evidence from Cheshire Constabulary in July 2025.

He said:

“We received a file of evidence relating to further allegations against Lucy Letby involving babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

Evidential Test Not Met for Murder or Attempted Murder

Following a rigorous review, the CPS concluded the evidence did not meet the threshold for prosecution. The allegations included:

  • Murder and attempted murder of two infants who died
  • Attempted murder of seven infants who survived

Ferguson added:

“The evidential test was not met in any of those cases. This decision was made independently, based on the evidence and legal standards.”

CPS to Meet Families to Explain Decision

The CPS has reached out to the families involved, offering meetings to discuss the decision. Their message concluded with:

“Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragic situation.”
