A 36-year-old man has been charged in connection with a double stabbing in East Ham.

Ismail Uradde, of Holland Road, East Ham, was charged on July 27 with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

This follows a major incident in East Ham last week that saw the A124 Barking Road and surrounding side roads taped off by police.

Officers from the Met were called to St Johns Road at 3.35am on July 26 with reports of people injured. At the scene, two men in their 40s were found suffering from stab wounds and were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Residents in St Johns Road woke up to find blood on the pavements and roads closed for hours as police conducted their investigation.

Uradde was arrested the same day and subsequently remanded in custody to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on July 27. The 36-year-old will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 23.

Community Impact and Police Response

The incident has left the local community shaken. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described waking up to a scene of chaos: “There was blood on the pavements, and the whole area was cordoned off. It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen on our doorstep.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “We are committed to tackling knife crime and bringing those responsible to justice. The swift arrest and charging of the suspect in this case demonstrates our dedication to keeping the streets of East Ham safe.

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

Uradde’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 23 at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he will face charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

The police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. If you have any information, you can contact the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference CAD 4297/26JUL24, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Community Safety and Resources

In light of the incident, local authorities are reminding residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Community support resources are available for those affected by the event, and local councillors are working with the police to ensure the area remains safe.
