A man from Colne, Lancashire, has been sentenced to 11 years and 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to a violent attack on two women at a family gathering last year. Dilnawaz Hussain, 28, of Duke Street, was also designated a dangerous offender by the Preston Crown Court, which imposed an additional five-year extended license period upon his release.
The incident occurred on the night of August 11, 2023, when Hussain, wearing a balaclava, forcefully entered the backyard of a residence close to his own home where the party was being held. Armed with a monkey wrench, Hussain launched an unprovoked attack on the two women. He struck one victim with the wrench, causing severe facial and head injuries. He then punched and kicked the second woman to the ground and continued the assault using a sound bar as a weapon.
This attack followed a previous altercation involving Hussain and one of the household members, which had led to his arrest prior to this incident. The motives behind his violent actions appear linked to this earlier conflict.
Both victims suffered significant injuries, with one experiencing serious trauma to her head and face, while the other sustained wounds on her forehead, face, and arms.
Det Con Natalie Swindells of Burnley CID commented on the case, stating, “This was a violent assault in which Hussain was armed with a weapon. It was unprovoked and two innocent women suffered injuries. We will not tolerate violence and will thoroughly investigate assaults so that violent offenders face justice.”
Hussain’s conviction brings closure to the victims and their families after nearly a year of distress following the attack. The court’s decision reflects the severity of Hussain’s actions and the community’s stance against such violent behavior.
