From 1 June 2025, the sale and supply of all single-use vapes will be banned across the UK, as authorities respond to growing concerns over environmental damage, youth vaping, and fire safety risks.
The move comes amid a worrying rise in fires involving vapes, with the majority linked to unsafe charging practices. Fire services are now urging the public to take extra precautions when using rechargeable vaping devices.
Crew Manager Paul Brazier from Braintree Fire Station has issued a series of safety tips to help prevent vape-related fires. He emphasised the importance of always using the correct charger supplied with the device and staying in the room while a vape is charging.
“Never leave a vape charging unattended, and avoid charging them overnight,” Crew Manager Brazier said. “Make sure to place the device on a hard, flat, and non-flammable surface while it charges, and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.”
The ban on disposable vapes is part of a wider initiative aimed at protecting public health and reducing the environmental impact of single-use electronic products. Authorities hope the measure will also reduce the number of dangerous fires linked to improper charging of vaping devices.
Fire services across the country will continue to promote safety advice as the new rules come into effect.
