A 29-year-old man has tragically died after his car crashed into a central barrier on the A2 early this morning (September 26).

The incident occurred between M2 Junction 1 (Rochester) and the A227 (Gravesend) at approximately 2:30am. The car, a black VW Tiguan, was travelling on the coastbound carriageway near the slip road for the A289 towards Wainscott when it collided with the central barrier and a bridge parapet.

Emergency services, including Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service, were quickly on the scene, but despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Road closures were implemented to allow emergency personnel to manage the situation, causing significant delays on the M2 towards London. The A2 has since reopened in both directions, and traffic has returned to normal.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash who have not yet come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538, quoting reference SM/DGC/099/24.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “We are continuing our investigation and encourage anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.
