A mother and her eight-year-old disabled daughter have tragically been found dead in what police are investigating as a potential murder-suicide. The victims, identified as Martina Karos, 40, and her daughter, Eleni Edwards, were discovered at their home on South Radford Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. yesterday after emergency services responded to a welfare concern.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that they are not actively searching for anyone else in connection with the incident, stating there are “no suspicious circumstances.” It is believed detectives are treating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Martina, who was half-Polish and half-Italian, lived with Eleni, who had severe disabilities and relied heavily on her mother for care. Neighbours described the mother as “devoted” to her daughter, with one neighbour stating, “She spent most of her time at home looking after her daughter. Eleni was hugely dependent on her mum.”

Tributes have been left outside the home, with flowers and a teddy bear placed by members of the local community. Neighbours expressed their shock and sorrow, describing Martina as a loving mother who doted on Eleni. One neighbour recalled that Eleni used a walking frame and a bus would collect her for school each day. Another resident remarked, “It’s so sad. The mother really doted on her daughter… But I spoke to her a month ago, and she seemed to have the world on her shoulders.”

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley of GMP said, “It is such a tragic loss of life, and our main priority is keeping their loved ones updated throughout the investigation.” She also noted that a cordon remains in place on Radford Street as officers continue to investigate.

Salford City Council expressed their condolences, with a spokesperson stating, “We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.

GMP is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Those with details can call 101, quoting log 998 of 23 September.
