A serving Dorset Police officer is set to appear in court, facing multiple charges related to an alleged incident at a nightclub in Bournemouth. Detective Inspector Mark Portelli has been charged with three counts of assault and one public order offence, which stems from an incident in March when the officer was reportedly off duty.

The charges allege that Det Insp Portelli engaged in threatening or abusive behavior likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress during the incident. He is accused of using threatening language and assaulting individuals while attending the nightclub.

The officer is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he will face the charges against him. Dorset Police have confirmed that Det Insp Portelli remains under investigation and will be subject to an internal disciplinary process depending on the outcome of the court case.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police stated, “The force takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and will continue to ensure a fair and transparent process.” Further updates are expected following the court appearance.
