A 35-year-old Melksham resident, Lexi Secker, has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for the rape of a woman in Swindon in 2021. The sentencing took place today, September 27, following Secker’s conviction earlier this year.
At the time of the offence, Secker was known as Alexander Secker but has since been identified as Lexi Secker. The crime occurred on April 23, 2021, after a night out in Blunsdon, and Secker was found guilty in a trial in June this year.
Detective Constable Corrina Wiltshire expressed gratitude toward the victim, highlighting the resilience and strength they displayed throughout the lengthy legal process. I would firstly like to thank our victim in this case, who has been inspirational in the way they have handled things,” DC Wiltshire said. I hope this sentence gives other victims the strength to come forward and help police seek justice for them.
DC Wiltshire also emphasized the importance of reporting sexual assaults, stating that the police are here to support victims, even if they are not yet ready to talk. This case has taken a long time to get to this point, but I’m pleased to say the victim has trusted the police throughout and stayed with this despite the hurdles. They have such incredible strength, and I hope it shows others that they can do this too.”
Wiltshire Police continue to encourage victims of rape or sexual assault to come forward. They emphasized that, even if victims are unsure about reporting an incident, they would rather hear from them so they can ensure their safety.
Victims are also encouraged to reach out to independent sexual violence advisors (ISVAs) through sexual assault referral centres (SARCs). SARCs provide 24-hour medical, practical, and emotional support for victims of rape and sexual assault, with specially trained professionals available to help.
Further support is available online via the Wiltshire Police website, which offers a range of resources for victims of rape and sexual assault, including guidance on accessing ISVAs and other support services.
