A 41-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a six-year-old boy in Swansea. Karolina Zurawska, from the Gendros area of the city, is set to appear before Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Monday in connection with the death of her son, Alexander Zurawski.
The young boy was found deceased at a property on Cwm Du Close in Gendros on Thursday. In addition to the murder charge, Zurawska also faces an attempted murder charge related to an incident involving a 67-year-old man earlier that same day.
South Wales Police have confirmed that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident, which has left the local community in shock.
Chief Superintendent Chris Truscott, the divisional commander for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, commented on the gravity of the situation: “This is a distressing incident which has been a tremendous shock to the local community. The local community has been outstanding in their support of our investigation, and we would like to thank all of them for their patience during what has been a traumatic few days. A police presence will be retained in the local area over the coming days in order to provide advice and reassurance. Our thoughts are with Alexander’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
In a statement released by South Wales Police, Alexander’s family described him as a “very kind child” who was mature beyond his years. “He loved playing with his little sister and playing with his dog Daisy,” the family said. “Alexander was always well-behaved and never naughty. He was very clever and very mature for his age. He had a great understanding of facts. Alexander was always helpful, and always eager to assist with cooking and cleaning. He was amazing.”
The family also expressed their gratitude to the emergency services involved in the incident.
Bethany Peterson, the headteacher of Whitestone Primary School, where Alexander was a student, expressed the deep sorrow felt by the school community. “We’re devastated to learn of the tragic death of Alexander,” she said. “Alexander was a delightful, determined little boy whose tenacity and positive demeanour ensured his success in all he undertook. He was an extremely loved and popular boy amongst his peers, staff, and all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. Appropriate support will be made available to children, staff, and all those within our school community who are affected.”
The tragic death of Alexander Zurawski has left the Swansea community reeling, and authorities continue to provide support to those impacted by this heartbreaking event.
