A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a violent robbery in Leeds after he attacked and robbed a stranger who had offered him a lift. Simon Kubalik, of Dulverton Place, Beeston, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday, following his guilty plea in October.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 25 when Kubalik, accompanied by a woman, approached a man sitting in his car on Harehills Lane and requested a ride to St Albans Road. After reaching their destination, Kubalik turned on the driver, brutally punching him multiple times before stealing his wallet and phone.
The victim sustained severe injuries, including multiple facial fractures that required several operations. CCTV footage was instrumental in identifying Kubalik, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge.
Detective Constable Joe Kendrew of the Leeds District Crime Team commented on the severity of the attack: “This attack was so violent that it left his victim with multiple facial fractures which required several operations. I hope this outcome will be of some comfort to him as he continues his recovery.”
