A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for a series of domestic abuse-related offences, including controlling and coercive behaviour, assault, and dangerous driving, following a disturbing campaign of abuse in Trowbridge.
Mohammed Baig, aged 43, of Headfield Road, Savile Town, Dewsbury, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on February 24, after previously pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that Baig’s abusive behaviour spanned from January 2024 to August 2024, during which he repeatedly subjected the victim to physical, emotional and psychological abuse.
One of the most alarming incidents occurred on August 8, 2024, when Baig was travelling with the victim on the M42 motorway and punched her in the head while she was driving, putting both their lives and others at risk.
Throughout the relationship, Baig exercised controlling behaviour, including taking the victim’s money, restricting her spending, confiscating her phone, and making repeated threats.
On August 26, 2024, after the victim refused to speak to him, Baig pursued her across multiple roads in Trowbridge, including Heather Shaw, Larkdown, Green Lane, Paxcroft Way, West Ashton Road, and County Way. Witnesses described his dangerous and erratic driving, including swerving across the road in front of and behind the victim’s vehicle.
The situation escalated when Baig struck the victim’s car on West Ashton Road, near Larkrise Farm, further endangering her safety.
Following his arrest and guilty plea, Baig was handed a two-year custodial sentence, marking a significant step in justice for the victim.
Authorities praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and encouraged others suffering in silence to seek help.
