A man who chased down and stabbed another man to death with two knives in broad daylight has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 23 years.

Dellan Charles, 23, was convicted of the brutal murder of Sean O’Neill, 23, during a violent attack on Reynolds Road, Hayes, on May 18, 2023. He was sentenced today (March 17) at Kingston Crown Court.

During the trial, the court heard how Charles pursued Sean O’Neill following an altercation between two rival groups, cornering him in a quiet residential street before launching a savage attack.

“Die, Die, Die” – Chilling Words Before Fatal Assault

Charles, armed with two knives, inflicted multiple stab wounds on Sean, reportedly shouting “die, die, die” during the frenzied assault. CCTV footage later showed Charles calmly leaving the scene, disappearing into nearby suburban gardens in a calculated attempt to avoid detection.

One of the knives used in the attack was later found discarded at a nearby address, part of a deliberate escape plan that saw Charles evade capture for nearly a year.

Nationwide Manhunt and Arrest

An extensive investigation by Specialist Crime South detectives led to a nationwide manhunt. On March 27, 2024, Charles was finally tracked down and arrested in Coventry, thanks to meticulous police work and intelligence gathering.

Detective Pays Tribute to Sean’s Family

Detective Inspector Kevin Martin, who led the investigation, said:

“Myself and the team once again pay tribute to Sean’s family who, throughout this distressing time, have shown real strength and togetherness.
Heartbreakingly, nothing will ever bring Sean back, but today, the man responsible for taking him away from his much-loved family has been forced to face the reality of his malicious actions.”

Family Statement: “We Miss Him Every Day”

In a heartfelt tribute, Sean’s family said:

“We really appreciate the efforts of the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service in bringing about justice, as well as the support we have received throughout this difficult process.
Sean will be remembered for his big heart, charming smile and fun-loving personality. He is incredibly loved by us all and we miss him every day.”

Justice Served, But Pain Remains

Charles will now serve at least 23 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole. The case has highlighted the devastating consequences of knife crime, and police have reiterated their commitment to tackling violence on London’s streets.

Further support continues to be offered to Sean’s family as they come to terms with their tragic loss.
