Residents in Tameside were left shocked this evening after a car crashed into a garage in Dukinfield, prompting a major emergency service response.

The incident occurred shortly after 5:30pm at the junction of King Street and Wharf Street. Witnesses described hearing a “loud bang” as the vehicle collided with the structure, forcing the busy road to close temporarily.

Emergency crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) rushed to the scene to secure the area and attend to the vehicle involved. Personnel could be seen working to make the scene safe, while police directed traffic and maintained a cordon.

It is currently unclear whether anyone was injured in the crash. No official details regarding the condition of the driver or possible passengers have been released at this time.

Local residents gathered nearby, with many expressing concern about the speed of traffic along King Street. One eyewitness said: “It was a huge bang, then all you could see was people running over to the garage. It’s lucky no one was standing there at the time.”

The road remained closed into the evening while investigations and recovery work continued. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
