A major police investigation is underway after a broad daylight shooting in Upton Lane, Forest Gate left one man with a gunshot wound and two others with head injuries. The incident, which unfolded just before 2.40pm on Tuesday afternoon, sparked a swift response from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance.
Two suspects have been arrested, one of whom remains in hospital with minor injuries, and a firearm has been recovered from the scene. Officers have imposed a police cordon around the residential area while forensic teams continue their investigation.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed:
“Officers were called to reports of gunshots in Upton Lane, E7. One male was treated for a gunshot wound and taken to hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Two others sustained head injuries and were also hospitalised.”
Swift Arrests and Community Reassurance
Chief Inspector Daryl Jones of the North East Command commented on the operation:
“We are aware that this shooting on a residential street this afternoon would have had an enormous impact on the local community. We are pleased we’ve been able to make two arrests and recover a firearm within hours of the incident.
“Any residents with concerns, please speak to officers at the scene or contact your local neighbourhood policing team.”
Ambulance Service Confirms Critical Response
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added:
“We were called at 2.51pm to reports of a shooting. We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic from our tactical response unit, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance.
“Three patients were treated at the scene. One was taken as a priority to a major trauma centre, and two others were taken to hospital.”
