Eight people have been injured following a multi-vehicle crash on the M25 that caused major delays during Wednesday evening’s rush hour.

Police were called to the anticlockwise carriageway between Junctions 9 and 8 at around 6:05pm after reports of a serious collision involving several vehicles.

Surrey Fire and Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and National Highways teams attended the scene.

Eight people received medical treatment, with some taken to hospital for further care.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and remains in police custody.

Three lanes of the motorway were closed for several hours, causing significant disruption for drivers, but all lanes have since reopened.
