A man has died following a serious flat fire in Oval, south London, overnight.
The blaze broke out shortly after midnight on Dorset Road, inside a first-floor maisonette within an 11-storey residential block.
Emergency Response
Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham and Battersea fire stations were called to the scene.
Firefighters discovered a man inside the property. Despite their efforts, he was sadly declared dead at the scene.
The fire was brought under control by 12:27am.
Cause Under Investigation
Part of the maisonette was damaged by fire. The London Fire Brigade confirmed the cause is now under joint investigation with the Metropolitan Police Service.
A spokesperson for LFB said:
“Our crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread. Tragically, one man was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Police are likely to speak with residents and review CCTV footage as enquiries continue.
