Police have charged a man following a reported sexual assault at Camber Sands, Rye, in england/south-east/east-sussex/”>East Sussex.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on Sunday, 25 August, when a woman in her 50s reported being sexually assaulted by a man while she sunbathed in the dunes.

An investigation was launched, and on Saturday (6 September), officers arrested 33-year-old Mohammed Maatoug, of Boxley Road, Maidstone, on suspicion of sexual assault by penetration.

He was later charged with the offence and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (9 September), where he was remanded in custody.

Maatoug is due to appear at a Crowncrown court, yet to be confirmed, on 7 October.

Police are continuing their enquiries into the case.
