Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) swiftly responded to a bin fire on Hillcrest Gardens in Deal on Sunday evening. The fire, which had spread to nearby fence panels, was reported at 6:41 pm and fully extinguished within 13 minutes.
Crews used high-pressure hose reel jets, supported by thermal imaging cameras, to tackle the flames. Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to safely access the affected area.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Following an investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, with hot coals placed in the bin believed to have ignited the blaze.
KFRS Safety Reminder
A KFRS spokesperson issued a reminder to residents:
“This incident highlights the dangers of disposing of hot coals or ashes improperly. Always ensure they are fully cooled before disposal, preferably by placing them in a metal container.”
