Arrest at the Scene

When officers arrived, Grange was seen standing at the front door. He locked it when challenged, forcing officers to gain entry through the back of the house, where they found him in the garden.

Grange was arrested on suspicion of murder. A post-mortem confirmed Ms Dixon had suffered a fatal stab wound.

During police interview, he read a prepared statement and then refused to answer questions.

Guilty Plea and Sentence

Grange appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on 26 June, where he pleaded guilty to murder.

On Friday, 29 August, he was sentenced at the same court to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 15 years.

Police Statement

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, who led the investigation, said:

“This was a truly horrific and violent attack. While Grange has now been sentenced, it does not detract from the fact that Rachel’s future has been taken away from her and her loved ones continue to be devastated by their loss.

Our thoughts remain with Rachel’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. The officers who attended worked with paramedics to try and save Rachel that day, and bravely went into the house to apprehend Grange.”

Family Tribute

In a statement following the sentencing, Rachel’s family said:

“Our beautiful daughter, sister, mother and auntie, who will be greatly missed by all, was taken away from us far too soon.”
