Central London’s Piccadilly Circus was the scene of a shocking crash on Tuesday evening, as a car mounted the pavement, struck a pedestrian, and then crashed into the Angus Steakhouse restaurant. Three people, including a pedestrian, the driver, and a passenger, were injured and subsequently taken to the hospital. No diners inside the restaurant at the time were hurt.
The crash took place around 7 p.m. on November 12, with the driver later arrested by police on suspicion of dangerous driving. A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that while the driver did not sustain serious injuries, they were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The current conditions of the pedestrian and passenger remain unknown.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing a “massive bang” and seeing people running from the scene. A local shop worker named Ramu, who witnessed the incident, said he initially feared it might be a terror attack due to the intensity of the impact. “I just saw the car come speedily and hit the curb near the fountain, then fly off onto the pavement,” he recounted.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, with the London Fire Brigade forced to cut one of the car’s doors to free a person inside. The London Ambulance Service dispatched multiple crews, including an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer, and transported all three injured individuals to a major trauma centre, prioritizing two for urgent care.
The crash caused a significant road closure near the junction of Haymarket and Coventry Street, and a heavy emergency response was visible throughout the area. Images from the scene captured a dark car badly damaged after the collision, with emergency services cordoning off the area.
Tourists staying in nearby accommodations described a heavy police and emergency response presence, with one South African visitor noting, “When we arrived, the whole area was cordoned off by cops. There were ambulances and fire engines everywhere.”
This incident adds to recent internet-driven attention around Angus Steakhouse, which has become the subject of a lighthearted online campaign by local food enthusiasts. However, the crash has drawn a sombre focus back to the area, highlighting the safety challenges in this bustling tourist district.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
