Fire crews are currently tackling a large wildfire that has broken out on heathland in Blackwater, Camberley, close to the A30.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) confirmed that they were alerted to the blaze shortly after 2:00 PM today, after receiving around 30 emergency calls from concerned members of the public.

Multi-Agency Response

Crews from Yateley, Rushmoor, Basingstoke, Fleet, and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene working together to contain the fire. Firefighters are using hose reels and specialist wildfire units to tackle the blaze, which has already spread to cover approximately two hectares of heathland.

Images from the scene show thick smoke rising above the treeline, with flames visible in several areas of dense vegetation.

Road and Public Safety

While the fire is close to the A30, no road closures have yet been announced. However, authorities are advising motorists and local residents to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke drift.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage to properties at this stage.

Ongoing Situation

Firefighters are expected to remain on site for several hours as they continue efforts to bring the fire under control. The cause of the blaze is not yet known and will be subject to investigation once the area is safe.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as new information becomes available.
