A man has been rescued after his kayak became stranded on a mud bank along the River Darent in Dartford on Saturday morning (16 August 2025).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said crews were called to the scene at 10:18am after reports that a kayaker had become trapped.

One fire engine and two specialist water safety units attended, with firefighters using rescue lines and an inflatable pathway to safely bring the man to shore.

Kent Police also attended the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Safety reminder

Following the rescue, KFRS issued a reminder for the public to dial 999 and ask for the fire service if they see someone struggling in a river, lake or other body of water in Kent and Medway.

A spokesperson said:

“Making the right call can help to save valuable time and impact someone’s chance of survival. Stay calm and provide as much detail as possible to the control operator.”
