Man Convicted of Murdering Partner in Kilburn

Tuesday, 18 February 2025 | London

A 50-year-old man has been convicted of murdering his elderly partner at her home in Kilburn, following a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service.

Guilty Verdict

A jury at Southwark Crown Court found Steven Clark, of Bravington Road, Kilburn, guilty of the murder of 80-year-old Ursula Uhlemann at her flat in Queens Park in March 2024.

Horrific Circumstances

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who led the investigation, said:

“Ms Uhlemann’s life was taken in appalling circumstances. In light of Clark’s conviction, our thoughts are with those that knew her. Clark had consistently lied about his role in Ms Uhlemann’s murder, denying any involvement whatsoever. I would like to thank the numerous witnesses who assisted investigators in building a picture of the events leading up to the killing.”

Discovery of the Crime

  • At 3:00 AM on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, London Ambulance Service attended Ms Uhlemann’s flat after a 999 call from Clark.
  • Paramedics found Ms Uhlemann unresponsive on the floor of her living room.
  • Despite resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced dead at 4:11 AM.
  • Police investigators attending the scene noted multiple injuries on her body, raising suspicions about the cause of death.

Clark’s Lies Uncovered

Clark, who was present at the scene, initially denied any involvement and claimed:

  • He had been staying at Ms Uhlemann’s flat but found her unconscious.
  • He had left and returned to the flat multiple times since Monday, 18 March.

However, CCTV footage revealed that Clark had never left the flat in the two days leading up to the murder, directly contradicting his account.

History of Abuse & Cause of Death

  • Officers uncovered a history of abuse, confirming Clark had been violent towards Ms Uhlemann in the past.
  • A postmortem examination determined her cause of death as neck compression.

Arrest & Sentencing

  • Clark was arrested and charged with murder on Friday, 22 March 2024.
  • Following his conviction, he will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 21 February 2025.

This tragic case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic abuse, and authorities continue to urge victims or those at risk to seek support.
