A man has been found guilty of planning a high-value robbery at a jewellers in Richmond, which tragically led to the death of a shop worker. Mannix Pedro, 37, from Woking, was convicted of conspiracy to rob at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, 19 February. He will be sentenced at a later date.
The daring raid took place on 25 May 2024, when two men—posing as customers—entered the jewellers on Kew Road after arranging an appointment. Once inside, they tied up a staff member and fled with approximately £1.3 million worth of luxury watches.
The Investigation: Uncovering the Plot
The Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad, a specialist unit focusing on high-profile robberies, launched an immediate investigation. By meticulously analysing CCTV footage from across the country and phone data, detectives linked Pedro to the crime.
Detective Sergeant Matt Hollands, who led the investigation, praised the team’s efforts:
“This was an audacious robbery that was several months in the planning. I’m pleased our investigation has resulted in a dangerous offender being convicted. Our work is far from over, and our focus remains on finding the three other men involved and bringing them to justice.”
Through CCTV analysis, officers traced the car used by the robbers and, using phone records, identified Pedro as the orchestrator. It was revealed that he coordinated the plot, organising the appointment at the jewellers and managing communications with the perpetrators.

Tragic Aftermath: Death of Oliver White
Tragically, the staff member who was tied up during the robbery, Oliver White, 27, was found dead the day after the incident. Though his death was not treated as suspicious, it underscored the devastating emotional impact crimes like this can have on victims.
In a heartfelt statement, Oliver’s mother, Amy Keane, described her son as:
“A huge character, very warm and a brilliant person. He lit up the room when he entered it and was incredibly kind and caring, always going above and beyond for others. Oliver had dreams of buying a house, starting a family, and building a bright future. His loss has left an unfillable void in our lives.”
Detective Sergeant Hollands added:
“Oliver has been in our thoughts throughout this investigation. His death is a tragic reminder that crimes such as robbery can have far-reaching, devastating effects on victims and their families.”
Ongoing Manhunt for Remaining Suspects
