A 13-year-old girl from Aldershot has been sentenced for her involvement in violent disorder during a protest outside Potters International Hotel on Wednesday, July 31. The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was part of a group of approximately 200 people who gathered at the site, some of whom acted aggressively and violently towards the hotel and its occupants.

While the majority of protestors remained peaceful, some members of the wider group were seen throwing objects and banging on the hotel’s doors. The teenage girl was captured on video violently kicking the doors, leading to her charge of violent disorder. She pleaded guilty to the offence at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on August 13.

Today, Monday, September 30, she was sentenced to a 12-month referral order, which requires her to regularly meet with the Hampshire Youth Justice Service.

This sentencing follows the earlier jailing of four men who were also involved in the violent disorder at the same protest. All pleaded guilty to the charge of violent disorder:

  • Cameron Bowling, 41, of Broadhurst, Farnborough, was sentenced to two years in prison.
  • Clive Patfield, 60, of The Chantrys, Farnham, received a two-year sentence.
  • Kieron Marney, 25, of Fairview Road, Ash, was jailed for two years and three months.
  • Perrie Fisher, 28, of Hillside Road, Farnham, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and failing to surrender to police or court bail at the appointed time. He was sentenced to 29 months in prison.

Additionally, Alby Brannan, 18, of Winchester Road, Ash, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and is due to be sentenced on November 29. Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Turvey, 34, of Montgomery Road, Farnborough, denied the offence and is set to stand trial on April 14, 2025.

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Bartolomeo commented on the incident, saying, “The majority of people who attended this protest in Aldershot were respectful, however, the girl was part of a smaller group that chose to act in an aggressive manner. While we appreciate her age, the girl’s behaviour was still completely unacceptable and her actions caused fear of violence to those inside the hotel and our officers.

He continued, “This result highlights that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and it is a clear message that these actions have consequences.

The protest and subsequent violent actions drew significant police attention, and authorities have emphasized that similar behavior in future protests will face firm legal repercussions.
