Officers from the Huntingdon Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) were on patrol in the Oxmoor area on 9 April in response to concerns about drug dealing in the area.

They witnessed 18-year-old Irmantas Gespautas engaging with two known drug users and, suspecting a deal had taken place, they approached Gespautas who suddenly ran upon seeing the officers.

The team searched the area and found Gespautas in The Whaddons and detained him for a stop-search.

When he was asked if he had any drugs on him, he replied “yes I have drugs, I found them and I wanted to sell them”.

The search uncovered nine wraps of crack cocaine and heroin, resulting in his arrest for possession with intent to supply class A drugs, which he was later charged with.

Gespautas, of no fixed address, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday (5 June) where he was sentenced to a year in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) after previously admitting the offence.
