Digital nomads and van-lifers can now enjoy high-speed internet anywhere in North America with the launch of SpaceX’s Starlink Mini. The compact antenna, priced at $599, offers a subscription plan ranging between $50 and $150 per month.
Starlink, known for its no-contract services, allows users to start and stop their service anytime. The Mini comes with a 30-day trial period, making it a flexible option for those constantly on the move. The Mini is a satellite dish and Wi-Fi router combined, about the size of a laptop, and uses approximately half the power of Starlink’s standard dish. It can be powered with a portable USB battery and is designed to handle harsh weather conditions, including snow, sleet, heavy rain, and strong winds.
This revolutionary product provides high-speed internet access on the go, even in areas not covered by cell towers. Whether backpacking the Appalachian Trail or taking an RV on a cross-country trip, users can stay connected and stream their favourite shows, such as “House of the Dragon,” no matter where they are.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk highlighted the Starlink Mini in a post on X in June, stating, “I just set it up right now and am writing this post through space. Took less than 5 minutes. Easily carried in a backpack. This product will change the world.” Musk also shared speed test results showing 100Mbps download speed, 11.5Mbps upload speed, and 23ms latency.
The Starlink Mini offers two plans. The Mini Roam plan, costing $50 per month, provides 50GB of portable or in-motion data each month, equating to roughly 20 hours of HD streaming. The Regional plan, priced at $150 per month, offers unlimited mobile data, with the option to pay by the GB for in-motion use.
The device measures 16.92 x 13.14 x 3.11 inches and weighs just under 15 pounds. It operates in temperatures ranging from -22°F to 122°F and has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating.
For digital nomads and adventurers, the Starlink Mini represents a significant step forward in ensuring connectivity in the most remote locations. With its robust features and flexible plans, staying connected while exploring the great outdoors has never been easier.
