Bishop Auckland, UK – Renovation workers made a grim discovery yesterday when they found the skeletal remains of a baby beneath the floorboards of an upstairs room in a house on Fore Bondgate. The find was reported to authorities around 11:15 am on Monday.
The remains are currently being recovered from the property, and a full search of the building is underway by police teams.
Forensic Examination Underway
Forensic analysts, including an expert anthropologist, have been brought in to examine the skeleton. Their role is to help determine the age of the baby and how long the remains have been in the property. A post-mortem examination and a CT scan are scheduled for later this week to establish the cause of death.
Investigation Launched
Detectives from Durham Constabulary have initiated an investigation and are in the process of tracing previous residents of the property to gather more information.
Detective Chief Inspector Mel Sutherland, from Durham Constabulary, commented on the situation: “Our investigations are at an early stage. Obviously, this is a sensitive enquiry and at this point, we remain open-minded as to the circumstances surrounding the death.”
Community in Shock
The discovery has left the local community in shock, as the historical area of Bishop Auckland is known for its close-knit community and rich history.
More information is expected to emerge as the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact Durham Constabulary.
