Four individuals have been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Greek tourist in what is suspected to be a botched robbery after leaving a nightclub in New Cross. Antonios Antoniadis, 26, was attacked on July 7 and succumbed to his injuries after two weeks in intensive care.
Police were called to Florence Terrace at around 9:20 am on July 7, where Antonios had been assaulted and stabbed. Despite receiving specialist intensive care, Antonios died on Sunday, July 21.
On Thursday, Shian Johnson, 25, of Argyle Walk in Camden, appeared at the Old Bailey charged with his murder. Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones KC described the incident as “an attempt to rob him by the occupants of a car that followed him home from a nightclub.”
Jones added, “Mr. Antoniadis was a visitor to the UK on holiday. He was a Greek national.”
Judge Philip Katz KC set a plea hearing for October 21 and scheduled a provisional six-week trial to commence on June 2 next year. Johnson, who appeared via video link from Belmarsh prison, confirmed his identity and was remanded in custody.
Earlier in the week, Sofian Alliche, 19, of Holborn, central London, and a 17-year-old youth also appeared at the Old Bailey charged with murder. Both were remanded into custody.
Joshua McCorquodale, 23, of Upper Park Road, Belsize Park, has also been charged in connection with the incident and is due to have his first Crown Court hearing on Friday morning.
