The body recovered from the River Thames near Wapping on 13 December has been formally identified as 37-year-old Gurbaksh “Simon” Sually, who had been missing since 23 November 2024.

Mr. Sually was last seen in the Bishopsgate and Hackney area of London, and was reported missing the following day. Despite extensive searches and appeals for information, there had been no confirmed sightings of him until the discovery of the body in the Thames.

A police spokesperson confirmed the identification of Mr. Sually and stated that his family had been informed of the development. The cause of death remains unconfirmed, but police have not raised any suspicions regarding the circumstances of his disappearance or recovery.

Family’s Desperate Search
Mr. Sually’s family had been actively searching for him, launching widespread appeals and posting flyers throughout Ipswich. His brother, Mohinder Sually, spoke about the emotional toll the search had taken on the family: “We are all so stressed. We’ve been into all the bars, pubs, and everywhere we can think of in Ipswich. People have been really helpful by putting up flyers. At first, it feels positive, but after two or three days without anything concrete, you start to feel really disheartened and worried.”

Reports indicated that Mr. Sually’s phone was active in Ipswich at around 2:30am on 28 November, which added to the mystery of his disappearance.

Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have stated that while the cause of death remains undetermined, the death is not considered suspicious. CCTV footage showed Mr. Sually walking alone along the river before entering the water, without any interference from third parties.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance has now been closed. Police continue to offer support to Mr. Sually’s family during this difficult time. Anyone with information about his disappearance is encouraged to contact the Metropolitan Police on 101 or report anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
