A Metropolitan Police officer, PC Samuel McGregor, 33, has been convicted of rape following a trial at Inner London Crown Court. The conviction came on Friday, after McGregor had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge during an earlier hearing on June 23, 2023.
The court heard that McGregor had raped the victim, who was known to him, on May 11, 2021, at an address in London. The victim later confided in her colleagues, who took immediate action by reporting the incident to the police on her behalf on June 2, 2021. McGregor was arrested the following day, and a comprehensive investigation was launched by detectives.
Chief Superintendent Andy Carter, responsible for policing in Central North, expressed his disgust at McGregor’s actions. “I am sickened by McGregor’s abhorrent behaviour and the pain he has caused the victim,” Carter said. There is simply no place for individuals like McGregor in the Met, and we will continue to root out such vile individuals.
Carter praised the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation, highlighting the care and compassion shown towards the victim as they gathered critical evidence and conducted interviews to build a strong case against McGregor. “Above all, I am pleased to see today’s result, which I hope brings some closure to the victim,” he added.
Following the conviction, McGregor will face a misconduct hearing at the earliest opportunity, as the police force looks to take further action in relation to his conduct. McGregor had been suspended from duty on March 3, 2022, after admitting to lying during a police interview.
A sentencing hearing for McGregor will take place on March 10, 2025. This case adds to the growing scrutiny of police conduct, with many calling for greater accountability and transparency within the force.
The victim’s bravery in coming forward has been commended, and the case underscores the importance of supporting those who have suffered in silence and ensuring justice is served.
