A dangerous sex offender has been jailed for 21 years after a Met Police investigation uncovered his involvement in encouraging the rape and sexual assault of a baby, as well as the distribution and possession of indecent images of children.

Keith Edun Convicted for Disturbing Offences

Keith Edun, 47, of Strathmore Road, Croydon, appeared at Croydon Crown Court on Friday, February 14, 2025, where he was sentenced for:

  • Encouraging the rape and sexual assault of a baby
  • Distribution of indecent images of children
  • Two counts of making indecent images of children
  • Perverting the course of justice

Meticulous Investigation Uncovered His Crimes

Detective Constable Phill Govett, who led the investigation, described Edun as a serious threat to children:

“Keith Edun has proven himself to be a dangerous sexual offender and a clear risk to children.”

“He went to great lengths to hide his offending, even deleting a messaging app from his phone before answering the front door to officers ready to search his address.”

“This complex investigation involved meticulous enquiries and digital forensic examination of the disturbing material Edun held on his phone. The fact that he will now be behind bars for a long time means he cannot harm any more vulnerable children.”

How Police Caught Edun

The investigation began in 2021, when Met detectives—specialising in child sexual abuse and exploitation—received intelligence that indecent images of children had been posted on the social media app ‘Kik’.

After tracing the account to Edun’s Croydon address, officers executed a warrant in September 2021.

Upon searching his devices, they found that Edun had been repeatedly downloading and deleting Kik to hide his online activity.

Further police investigations linked him to another offender who had been convicted of the rape of a baby in March 2020. Forensic analysis of that offender’s devices revealed that Edun had encouraged the act via online communication.

Sentencing and Judge’s Ruling

Following his October 2023 charge and remand into custody, Edun was sentenced to:

  • 13 years in custody, followed by an eight-year extended licence period, after being assessed as a dangerous offender.
  • A lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
  • Permanent placement on the Sex Offenders Register.

The presiding judge stated that Edun’s criminal history demonstrated a persistent and extreme sexual interest in children, particularly babies, and that he posed a significant ongoing risk of harm.

A Warning to Online Offenders

DC Govett reaffirmed the Met’s commitment to targeting online child abuse and exploitation:

“This investigation is an example of the dedication of the Met’s Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Command to keep vulnerable children safe across the UK.”

“Despite Edun not being physically present at the rape, this sentencing shows that those who encourage such offences online are just as culpable for the harm caused.”
