Emergency services were called to two separate incidents on Vauxhall Bridge Road today (February 20) around 1:30 PM, leading to significant disruptions and the temporary closure of the busy road near Victoria Station.

Incident 1: Man at Height Safely Secured

The first incident involved a man standing at height, prompting an urgent response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and Metropolitan Police. After careful coordination, emergency crews were able to safely secure the man and bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.

A police spokesperson confirmed, “The man has been brought to safety, and we are grateful for the swift actions of the emergency teams on site.”

Incident 2: Ongoing Police Support at Peabody Estate

Simultaneously, firefighters and police attended a second, unrelated incident at the nearby Peabody Estate on Vauxhall Bridge Road. While specific details have not been disclosed, the London Fire Brigade confirmed the use of specialized equipment, including a 32-metre turntable ladder and a fire rescue unit, to assist police.

An LFB spokesperson stated:
“We have firefighters on scene with a fire rescue unit and a 32-metre turntable ladder to support the police with the incident. There are two separate incidents, both on Vauxhall Bridge Road, and we are assisting with both.”

Road Closures and Public Disruption

Vauxhall Bridge Road was closed in both directions between Neathouse Place, near Victoria Station, and Francis Street during the height of the incidents. The area saw a heavy presence of emergency vehicles, including police cars, ambulances, and even a helicopter, as crews worked to resolve both situations.

Pedestrians and motorists were advised to avoid the area, causing significant delays and traffic congestion.

By late afternoon, the cordons were lifted, and Vauxhall Bridge Road was reopened in both directions.
