A tragic accident in Manchester city centre has claimed the life of a three-year-old girl following a collision involving a tram and a van.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Friday afternoon after the incident occurred at a busy intersection. The young girl was taken to hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to her injuries, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed today.

In a statement, GMP said: “We can confirm that a three-year-old girl has tragically died following a collision between a tram and a van in Manchester city centre. No arrests have been made, and inquiries are ongoing.”

Authorities are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident. No details have yet been released regarding the cause of the collision or whether the girl was a pedestrian, a passenger, or involved in another capacity.
