A murder investigation has been launched after a 75-year-old man died following an assault in Seven Sisters Road, Islington.
Emergency services were called at around 11:35 pm on Thursday, 27 February, to reports of an injured man. Officers from the Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital but tragically died on Friday, 28 February. Police have informed his family, and the man is believed to be a Bolivian national. Formal identification and a post-mortem examination are expected to take place soon.
Three Teenagers Arrested
Three teenage girls, aged 14, 16, and 17, were initially arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) before the victim’s death. Their arrests are now being reviewed as the case has become a murder investigation. The suspects remain in police custody while inquiries continue.
Police Assure Local Community
Superintendent Annmarie Cowley, responsible for policing Islington, acknowledged the community’s concerns, stating:
I know this death will cause shock and very real concern in Holloway and the wider Islington area. I share those concerns and want to assure local people that a thorough police investigation is underway.
Additional police patrols have been deployed in the area to provide reassurance. Officers will be present throughout the weekend, and local residents are encouraged to approach them with any concerns or information.
Murder Investigation Underway
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller, leading the investigation, confirmed that police are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of the attack.
Three people are in custody, and specialists from across the Met have been working to establish exactly what happened. Every possible line of inquiry is being followed, including forensic analysis and CCTV review.
