A joint investigation is underway following a fatal house fire that broke out in the early hours of Monday morning on Nithdale Road in Plumstead, South East London.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 1am, responding to reports of a blaze at a terraced property in the residential neighbourhood.
Despite the swift arrival of London Fire Brigade crews and paramedics, one person was tragically confirmed dead at the scene.
Police and Fire Brigade Lead Investigation
The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Specialist fire investigators are working closely with police forensic teams, and a cordon remains in place around the property as part of the ongoing enquiries.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, and efforts are ongoing to notify the next of kin.

Residents in the quiet street of Nithdale Road, which sits within the Greenwich borough, expressed shock at the early-morning emergency.
“We woke up to flashing lights and saw the house surrounded by fire crews,” said a neighbour. “It’s devastating to hear someone has lost their life.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no further details have been confirmed about the nature of the blaze, including whether it is being treated as suspicious.
