A cyclist in his 20s is in a life-threatening condition following a serious collision with a van on New Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road, on Saturday morning, April 12.
The incident occurred just before 11:00am, prompting a swift response from Metropolitan Police officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews.
Emergency services found the cyclist seriously injured at the scene. After being treated by paramedics, he was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Driver Arrested at the Scene
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing injuries by careless driving. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
“A man has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of causing injuries by careless driving after a van struck a cyclist in New Oxford Street at 10:59am on Saturday, April 12.
The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service. He was later transferred to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not released the identity of either the cyclist or the arrested driver. Officers are appealing to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to come forward.
New Oxford Street, a busy central London route linking Holborn and Oxford Street, was partially closed while emergency services responded to the scene and began their investigation.
