A father who tragically lost his life in a devastating gas explosion in Worksop has been named as David Howard, aged 53.
David was pulled from the rubble of his terraced home on John Street following the blast on the evening of Saturday, April 12. Emergency services rushed to the scene at approximately 7.39pm, declaring a major incident as surrounding properties were damaged and the area was rocked by the force of the explosion.
“He Lost His Life in Truly Tragic Circumstances”
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow confirmed the victim’s identity and urged the public to respect the privacy of Mr Howard’s daughters during this painful time.
“He has lost his life in truly tragic circumstances,” DCI Burrow said. “Our investigation to establish exactly what happened is ongoing, and we are working hard to find the answers his family needs.”
She also asked the public to avoid online speculation as inquiries continue.

Tributes Pour In for a Beloved Community Member
Following the police confirmation, tributes to Mr Howard quickly flooded social media. One local, Ashlie Platt, wrote on Facebook:
“Gutted, RIP Dave. God bless you. We’ll never forget you. I’m distraught.”
Another friend, Donna Potts, added: “RIP Dave my mate, fly high.”
Devastation in the Community
The blast completely destroyed David’s home and significantly damaged neighbouring properties, causing roofs to collapse and blowing debris across the street. Photos from the scene show piles of bricks, shattered windows, and emergency personnel carefully navigating the wreckage.

Local councillor Mike Introna, who grew up on John Street, expressed his sorrow:
“So sad to hear of the fatality and injuries following the gas explosion. Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the gentleman.”
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also extended their condolences, stating:
“Despite the best efforts of the responding emergency service personnel, he died at the scene. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Community Displaced and Search Ongoing
About 20 residents were forced to take refuge at Crown Place Community Centre, while others stayed with friends and family. Specialist search teams and structural engineers remained on site into Sunday to ensure the area was safe and to account for all residents.
Chief Inspector Neil Humphris of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“This is an extremely serious incident that has led to a man’s untimely death. I have no doubt that this incident will have come as a shock to the community in Worksop.”
Police Warning and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have asked the public to avoid flying drones over the scene, warning that doing so without permission is a criminal offence. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with gas infrastructure experts and structural engineers assisting.
Emergency services continue to urge patience as cordons remain in place and residents face disruption in the aftermath of the tragedy.
