A fire in a derelict building on Cornelia Place in Erith sent huge plumes of smoke into the sky earlier this evening, prompting a swift response from the London Fire Brigade.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade confirmed:
“Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire in a derelict building on Cornelia Place, Erith.”
“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 6:31pm, and crews had the fire under control by 7:19pm.”
Firefighters from Erith, Bexley, and Plumstead stations attended the scene.
The blaze was brought under control shortly before 7:20pm. There have been no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Residents nearby captured dramatic images of thick smoke rising from the building, visible across the local area.
