A fire at a substation on Warwick Road in Sparkhill has left approximately 380 homes without power, West Midlands Fire Service has confirmed.
The incident, which sparked a swift emergency response, prompted the National Grid to remotely isolate the substation for safety reasons. Crews attended the scene to manage the fire and ensure the surrounding area was secured.
In a public update, West Midlands Fire Service said:
“A substation affected by the fire at Warwick Road, Sparkhill, has been isolated remotely by National Grid, impacting approx 380 homes. National Grid expect all power to be restored to all homes by 18:30 hrs.”
Engineers are currently on site working to resolve the issue and restore electricity as quickly as possible. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Residents affected by the power outage are being advised to check on vulnerable neighbours and use caution with alternative light or heating sources until power is restored.
