Drivers on the M25 faced significant disruption this afternoon after a vehicle fire brought traffic to a complete standstill on the anticlockwise carriageway between Junction 13 (Staines/A30) and Junction 12 (M3 interchange).

Traffic was temporarily held in all lanes as emergency services responded to the blaze. Initially, the incident was reported as a broken-down car, but authorities later confirmed the vehicle had caught fire, resulting in stationary traffic along the busy stretch.

The breakdown has since been recovered, and the fire extinguished, but delays remain ongoing as congestion continues to clear.

A National Highways spokesperson said:

“All lanes are currently closed while emergency crews ensure the road is safe. The vehicle involved has been recovered, but residual delays are expected for some time.”

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, seek alternative routes where possible, and check live travel updates via www.trafficengland.com or regional traffic feeds.

No injuries have been reported at this stage, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
