A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was struck by a vehicle during an incident in Canada Road, Erith.
At approximately 1.30pm on Wednesday, 30 April, officers responded to reports of an alleged vehicle theft. During the intervention, a police officer was hit by a car and sustained spinal injuries.
The injured officer was taken to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing. He has since been discharged and is recovering.
Later the same day, at around 7.50pm, a 41-year-old man was arrested in Erith on suspicion of attempted murder. He currently remains in police custody.
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed:
“Our officer received spinal injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. We take any attack on our officers extremely seriously. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Detectives are continuing their investigation and have urged any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Increased police presence is expected in the area over the coming days to reassure residents.
