A man has been charged after a Kent Police officer was injured while responding to reports of a suspect armed with a bladed weapon in Istead Rise.
Police were called to Worcester Close at around 7.46am on Wednesday 20 August following concerns about a man carrying a knife. Armed officers attended and spoke with a suspect outside a property.
It is alleged the man behaved in a threatening manner, prompting a constable to discharge a taser. During the arrest, an officer suffered a serious cut to his hand and later required hospital treatment.
A search of a nearby address also led to the seizure of a quantity of cannabis.
Court appearance
On Thursday, Imman Singh, 29, of Worcester Close, Gravesend, was charged with:
- Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
- Possessing an offensive weapon used to threaten another person
- Possession of cannabis
Mr Singh, a British national, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Friday 22 August.
Police statement
Kent Police confirmed that the injured officer is recovering following hospital treatment. Detectives have reassured residents that the incident was isolated and that there is no wider risk to the community.
