New Travel Insurance Rules Kick In From 2026

EasyJet has blasted out a warning to all tourists jetting off to Georgia. From January 1, 2026, travellers must have valid travel insurance covering their entire trip, or risk being denied entry.

The Black Sea nation’s fresh rules mean Brits flying there need insurance that covers health and accidents for the entire stay, with a minimum payout of GEL 30,000 (£8,200). Passengers must be able to show proof in Georgian or English — either on paper or digitally.

EasyJet’s No-Nonsense Advice to Passengers

In a statement on its website, EasyJet said: “You must have travel insurance for your trip. Please check your travel documents before you fly. A new regulation has been introduced for visitors travelling to Georgia.”

They added, “You may be asked for evidence of your travel insurance when you land in Georgia. You may face difficulties if you’re unable to provide a copy of your insurance.”

FCDO Backs Up Warning

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) strongly advises travellers to research destinations carefully and get proper travel insurance that covers planned activities and emergencies.

The FCDO also warns against visiting contested regions like South Ossetia and Abkhazia for security reasons.

The UK government website stresses: “The UK does not have a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Georgia. You or your travel insurer will need to pay for all treatment as it’s provided.”

While healthcare in the capital Tbilisi is available, it’s pricey. Facilities outside the city are limited, with some English-speaking medical staff in select clinics.
